The Futeurope project: a debate on lives of over 55's across Europe

'Futeurope' is an international project for and by senior citizens in which groups of seniors from different European countries participate.

The aim of the project is to provide senior citizens from various countries with the opportunity to look at the similarities and differences in their lives.

The ultimate goals is for senior citizens in participating European countries to get to know each other better.

This is achieved by discussing a variety of themes in a group setting.

The discussions take place in a study circle. A study circle is a self-organising discussion group of about 8-12 people. During the study circle sessions various topics will be discussed, such as housing, paid labour and leisure time, mobility and public transport, politics and religion, solidarity, cure and care.

By making notes of the discussions and using a dedicated website the study circle groups in their own country. These visits are intended to allow study circle members to become better acquainted with each other and to experience how senior citizens live in other EU countries. Whenever possible the visitors will stay with the participants in their own homes. The result could be the creation of new friendships, but also a better understanding of the changes that are needed to really make our continent into a 'one Europe'.

The project started at the end of 2007 and will last until the summer of 2009. it is sponsored by the Socrates-Grundtvig Life Long Learning programme of the EU.
